Our story

I am a wife and mum of 2, living in Tasmania, Australia.

Since I was a little girl, jewellery and gemstones have been part of my life. The colours of a gem sparkling in a ring and treasures in my mothers jewellery box fascinated me, and I knew gems and jewels would become a life-long obsession.

I have always been a rock-hound, spending family trips and time at the beach too busy looking at the ground for a great find to notice what was happening around me.

As life got busy and I became a mum, jewellery took a back seat, but I re-discovered my passion for jewellery and began jewellery making. This meant I needed gemstones, but always the rock connoisseur, wanted unique, uncommon and generally ‘different’ gems for my jewellery creations, resulting in the creation of ‘Gem Folk’. The place to find the perfect unique gem for any jewellery piece.

Gem Folk began as the result of my frustrations with sourcing cabochon gemstones. I found sourcing gemstones internationally took too long or was far too expensive due to shipping costs, and there was lack of local suppliers. I concluded, I could not be the only jewellery maker facing these frustrations, so set out to provide a solution.
